Artist's Comments

Edited: ears, added the girl's shoulder, polished some details that look different up close but not in photo, sigh.

Anyway.

nothing its perfect..

I don't really know anything about anatomy, but i do like the way you are combining it with surreal themes.

Perhaps my eyes deceive me, but it seems like some of the details were rushed, and to me they just look like overly defined dark lines, like in the girl's right shoulder. Details is basically the focal point of my drawing style, so what i always try to do is make sure that within the details and textures, no "lines" are visible, only contrasting values.

Although I usually prefer the ultra smooth methods of shading as opposed to cross hatch, the accuracy of the anatomy makes up for it almost completely for me (although i don't actually know if its accurate). But on the girl's shoulder's it gets a bit too messy.

Thank you. Yes, I see what you're saying--use values, not lines. I guess I was getting a bit antsy by that point, so now I'll go back and polish it up. As for the cross hatching vs. shading, I've been switching between the two on and off recently. Originally this was going to be smoothly shaded like my older pieces but...I guess my hands decided otherwise. XD

Ooh, this excites me. I don't see anything wrong with the anatomy, but that's probably due to the fact that I know little of it! :aww: The only thing I would probably try and fix is making things a little darker. For example, the tendon (tendon?) and space underneath his arm. To me it doesn't look right...But that's about it! Little things like that. Overall, I'd say it deserves a DD, it's so awesome. :D :+fav: I am definitely glad that I :+devwatch: you.

Well here's my piece - although I really don't know that much about human anatomy, or the more subtle values of compsition, so I dunno how much worth it is.

I think the main thing I feel when looking at this drawing, is that it seems slightly off-centre - almost as if a drawing of the two people had been oddly cropped. It leaves me feelinng slightly edgy, as if I want to slide the frame to the side a bit to even it up. Of course this may just be me and my love of symetricality - which I get the feeling you, and probably a lot of other people care less for.

I think the girl's face looks a little off - almost as if she was pressed up against the background. Her mouth and nose look like they're viewed profile, but her too much of her cheek and eye seem to be visable. Her ear seems a little too far down. (the guy's ear looks a little to tilted backwards, almost heading towards the traditional elvish look, which is at odds with his sculpted form).

The girl's body also doesn't seem quite right to me - maybe it's because of the deep shadow, where I'm not fully sure it's justified, or maybe beacuse of a slight lack of detail or texture compared to the rest of the image.

Overall though, I rather like the image, even though the concept is, as with most 'art,' totally beyond me :XD:

Thank you, really, for taking the time. I definitely agree with you about the ears now that you point it out, so I'll go back and fix those. As well as with the girl's body--I'm not sure what I'll do there yet, but I do see that there needs to be more definition.
:iconxiaocaca:
Ah, okay, I see what you're saying. Thank you. :)
:iconsquanpie:
no problem :)

Agreeing with what squanpie said, i think the girl's mouth looks just a little off balance in my opinion
you've been drawing people and faces a lot longer than i have though so i'm not too sure.. i'm just basing off what i see ^.^"
gradient done for the tone on the girl's body adds depth in a slighlty odd way that makes the girl's body seem not as 3D as the guy's

if i may ask, what paper is this?

even when balance/composition and anatomy are off, it makes the picture better.

i like it way it is.
