I guess it's time to update?

Thu Dec 25, 2008, 5:50 AM
Since I haven't in....months....and TDK is old news.

So what's new? You know how *most* Asian parents are about dating? Well I count myself lucky. The other day (well, a while ago) my mother said to me, "Ahh, it's okay. At your age, you don't have boyfriends, you have boy toys."

And that pretty much sums up my view on life.

So I did end up watching Twilight (because my friends went and they were all coming over to my house afterwards anyway, so why not...?) and, uhm.

lmao.

They're not even bad actors, Kristen and Robert (can't say the same for the rest of the cast), so I don't know why they seemed like laughable statues, and a creeper on Rob/Ed's part. I mean, Kristen in Into the Wild? And Robert Pattinson looks delectable in Little Ashes. So what went wrong in the epic saga of Bell and Ed?

Well, if you know me at all, you know my answer to that question.

I also saw Madonna's new movie. Ahah. The one she directed? She's terrible, really, and the movie got the D rating it deserved, but--

I think I sort of enjoyed it.

Hear me out first. I watched the trailer a few months ago, and you know how they put like, snippets from critics in there sometimes, and one of them was: "a handlebar moustache has ever looked so sexy," or something, and that was referring to the main character, who was this...Ukrainian wannabe rockstar, with, uh, a handlebar moustache, and I was like...yeah sure.

And then I watched the movie and fell in love.

Eugene Hutz, guys. Gogol Bordello. Perhaps you've heard of them. Maybe you like them. Good stuff.

So also recently I believe I have developed classroom ADD and narcolepsy. Alternatingly (if that wasn't a word, it is now). Either I fall dead asleep in front of the teacher (I get front row in most of my classes) or I fidget and have this overwhelming urge to leap up and run around the classroom screaming. It kicks in second period, during which I have math, which is absolutely boring. So I guess that's why I'm not doing so well. Since I fall asleep. It's not even something I let myself do, like, I try my darned hardest not to fall asleep everyday, but it just...happens. What can I say.

I'm a phail.

I also got downgraded from Honors Studio Art (which I enrolled in, you know, purely for honors credit) to Painting, which is complete bullshit. Scheduling conflict. All the art courses in my school are, uh, complete bullshit. Didn't Picasso learn to actually draw before moving onto his crazy shit? Apparently my school sees it fit to bypass, oh you know, that whole ACADEMIC ART STEP and go straight to crap like Peter Max...which we're doing a project on now...I don't know about you, but I really don't like Peter Max's work. I don't know. It blinds me. Some of his funky painterly stuff is interesting to look at, but none of it really...strikes me. And since when are art teachers supposed to encourage us to copy other people's styles? Hmm? So I'm not doing that, I'm doing my own thing. If she (my teacher) doesn't bloody like it, so be it, but I'm not going to go all pop art whoopass.

Also, none of the art teachers in my school can draw/paint/whatever a bloody lick.

So, fail.

And before anyone decides to lecture me on the merits of encouraging Peter Max-like work as opposed to celebrity portraits, well...I'm not really doing those anymore, or if I do, I acknowledge that it's worthless crap. As far as enrichment for my personal improvement goes. If I want to draw Aaron Johnson or Eugene Hutz for kicks, or whatever, it's not like I'll be like NO I CAN'T DO THAT IT'S NOT GOING TO HELP ME IN ANY WAY, but I won't be like har har, I can copy a photo, I'm really amazing, either. It's fun. It's empty.

I'm needing some inspiration. Or a break. I'm on break right now, from school, so hopefully I'll be able to get some stuff done.

Oh, and by the way, I'm glad Robert Pattinson cut his hair. Now he doesn't look like a hobo vamp who hasn't showered in seven weeks.

Oh, and happy holidays all. No Christmas drawings this year. Sorry.

Right, honestly, don't ask me to use my stuff in blends and photomanipulations and web laytouts and crap. Just don't. Please and thank you.

I completely forgot Kristin was in Into the Wild. That was just an awesome movie. Unlike that certain other movie she was in.

"Didn't Picasso learn to actually draw before moving onto his crazy shit?"

Yes, I believe that Picasso and all the Old World European masters were all classically trained in perspective, anatomy, portraiture, figure studies, etc. that all rested on recreating the natural world as close as they could - I think the operating philosophy was, "You cannot master how to create what does not exist when you first need to master how to recreate what does exist."

If you haven't seen it already, watch My Kid Could Paint That.

Sorry to read about being downgraded from Honors Studio Art to Painting - that doth suxors - but that's just temporary.

As for Twilight - uggghhh, all I remember about watching the trailer was how it made me laugh.

And I laughed harder when my friend sent me this abriged movie script: link

lols, there's a reason I didn't take art either at GCSE or this year, although I was almost tempted but didn't in the end. Ok, you'll probably disagree with me, since you are able to do the more sureal/abstracty drawings which I can't even force myself to...

I like the freedom I have as a person who draws as a hobby. (I'd never call myself an artist except when talking to those who don't understand the difference I see between the whole copying photos thing and actually drawing stuff with meaning, etc...). I can choose where I want to go, move on at my own pace, and experiment. For a while I expected I'd never get beyond the 'copying scenes from films for friends' phase, but I have begun to experiment, trying to mix photos to create new images, taking requests from friends to draw their own origenal characters, attempting to draw things from life, etc. Admittedly I have only been drawing for a year (well, outside of what I did for school), and you'll probably have more experiance of what you actually gain from art lessons, and probably be more interested in things such as interperetating art and symbols, etc, but You can draw and have fun perfectly happy without being forced to exaine, mimic and learn about styles you don't even like.

I haven't seen the Twilight movie, haven't read the books, am in general staying well away from them, given the sort of attention they've attracted from what I've read in the fanfic galleries!

I'm no artist, I just draw.

I haven't seen either of those movies...

Hehe, I've never had a good art class... but mostly because all of my art teachers have believed in a "wrong" way to do art... which defeats the purpose, I think

Hehe, and I know what you mean about drawing photos... I still kindof enjoy it, but I can't be proud of the final product, because it's just a copy of reality :(

Aaaaah, I love Eugene Hutz and Gogol Bordello. I'm sooooo jealous you got to see Filth and Wisdom!! It hasn't played in my city yet, but I really really want to go out and support Eugene even if the movie is shit (and it looks like it will be). I saw GB in concert this October and it was the most amazing show I have ever seen. Even after months on tour, Eugene has this incredibly energy that I want to bottle and make babies with... sexy alcoholic gypsy babies. :D
Merry christmas to you and your family, take care!

XP Hope you had a good one.

Yup, you too!

Not to forget the infallible Emile Hirsch.
